Owner

My father Clark started the Bike Shop in 1974 after a run for the governor of Iowa. We had a very small shop that started at 8th & Railroad, moved to 63rd St. in 1990, then to our current location in 2000. I love what I do at the shop and have GREAT employees that take care of me and the shop when I am gone. I have a lovely wife Kristy, don’t know how she has put up with me for 30 years but all is good, 3 children, Misty 37, Michael 29, Corey 26. We have 7 grandkids, all boys, Nathan 18, Colby 13, Braeden 7, Ryder 5, Max 2, Mason 2, Graham 1. I just got a new Foundry Broadaxe MTB to ride with the boys in the woods. Thanks for all of your support.

Adam Thompson
Certified Master BG Fit Technician

Employed here since the summer of 2006, I was seasonal help until I graduated from Simpson College, with a BA in Sociology and Criminal Justice. Then in the fall of 2008 I was hired here full time, and now I am a Specialized Certified BG fitter, and love my job, as I make people more excited to ride. I live in Indianola with my wife Ashley, and son Drake. I enjoy running, biking, and I am a huge Cubs, Falcons, and Hawkeyes fan. I enjoy racing road bikes currently and my current stable of bikes includes a Specialized S-Works Venge, a Specialized Allez Evo, and an Orbea Alma.

I am a Hoover Graduate, and have worked at Rasmussen’s for 20 years; I know that is hard to believe. I have a lovely wife, Pam, and a son Kamron. My true passion is mountain biking and I do as many mountain bike races as I can every year. I enjoy tinkering with anything mechanical and could not have found a better place to be. My current bikes are a Salsa Chili Con Crosso, a Salsa Ti El Mariachi, and a Specialized Allez E5.

Master Wrench

I am originally from the Storm Lake area, but have lived in the Des Moines area for almost 30 years now. I have a beautiful wife Julie, a daughter Erica, and son Vance. I enjoy watching tennis, listening to music, playing my guitars, and riding my bikes. I have been working at Rasmussen’s since 1995 and can fix anything on a bike because I have seen it all. I currently ride a Specialized Tricross Singlespeed, and a Specialized S-Works Tarmac.

I Moved to Des Moines in 1998 and started at Rasmussen’s that season. I then strayed for a while only to return a couple years later and have been here ever since. Most of my duties are in the repair department as well as internet sales. Rasmussen’s has always been a place where I enjoy coming to work. I live by the shop; have two kids Jade and Joe and one grandchild Sophia. I also enjoy being a musician, playing keys in a local band. My rides of choice are an S-Works SL3 Roubaix and a Specialized Langster.

Sales

I started working at the bike shop in the summer of 2000 working summers and after school. I graduated from Roosevelt and then moved on to college at the University of Central Missouri where I got a BA in Automotive Engineering. After graduation from college I got married to my wife Sarah and had a Son Liam. I also took a short vacation from the shop and tried to make something of my college degree but got sucked back in by the charms of the bicycle industry and have been back to the shop full time. My main spot is in the back working on any and every type of bike that gets tossed up on my stand, but I have also been to Specialized Fit School and try to help out in the rest of the shop in any way I can. My current stable of bikes includes an S-Works Tarmac SL4, Salsa Beargrease Fatbike, Salsa Colossal,  and a Haro Mary SS 29r.

Iowa born and raised, I moved to New Orleans where I lived for 10 years until hurricane Katrina sent me back home to Des Moines. I am a “vintage” bike fanatic with a small collection (13 bikes) all of which I’ve reconditioned with my own sweat and blood. I am the king of “the shire,” which is the warehouse/assembly portion of the shop. I do occasionally work up in the shop, helping with customers and doing a few repairs. Every day I feel very blessed to have a job doing something I love and to be working with such a great group of people; co-workers, customers, and the team riders.
