The road season is getting pretty close to kicking off in Iowa. We've already had a few Gravel Road Races around the state and people are gearing up for the famed Kent Park Road Race on Sunday, March 24. We caught up with our road team for another installment on a few of their favorite things including their bikes! Q: Tell us about the new Specialized bikes! A: (Peter Basso) we are fortunate enough to have the Rasmussen Bikes name behind us. Greg and the gang actively support our addiction. That means we ride Specialized Bicycles as our weapon of choice. Some of the guys are riding the impeccably designed S-Works Venge. The Venge is the captain of the fleet and screams, "I'm faster than you." Designed with speed in mind, this bike is not only aerodynamic, but it is very stiff laterally. It's no wonder the top pros in the world ride this bike. Another pro's choice bike is the S-Works SL4, the hill climbing brother to the Venge. It weighs a shade less and is a 19% stiffer than its predecessor the SL3. Sleek lines and sexy looks, this bike is incredibly light at 15 lbs and climbs like a mountain goat. The rest of the guys have chosen the more affordable aluminum Allez Race. Newly designed this year with 'smart welds', a method that allows the bike to be manufactured with light aluminum tubing and stronger welds. Specialized was able to table the weight on this frame to just around 1200 grams. It's light, responsive and downright stealthy. This is a bike for any level of racer. Most important is the support we get from our friends at Rasmussen Bike Shop. Matt Buchanan is our dedicated team mechanic. Matt's a certified tech that knows all the ins and out of the bikes and components. He is always a smiling face that is willing to help. We greatly appreciate what our Bike Shop does for the sport and for us. Without them, we'd probably be throwing lawn darts at Waterworks Parks!
You've probably heard about them. You've more than likely seen them. But have you ridden one? Friday, January 11 from 3-6 we're going to be having a Salsa Cycles Fat Bike Demo at the shop, then from 6-??? we're doing a night ride over in Denman's Woods! (THANKS to our Fat Bike Brethern who have beaten down the snow for great riding for all!) Fat Bikes have been an exploding area of cycling the past few years, and we feel like Rassy's is becoming the Fat Bike Concept Store with all the wild rides happening in the metro. You can ride them any time of the year, on any trail, but the magic happens when you knock down your own trails. From prairies to sand bars to snow, Fat Bikes are fun and they're here to stay!
